Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Foltz have displayed several books they recommend. The shelves on the west side of the center section are filled with fiction titles for you to consider. Looking for some interesting nonfiction? Check the shelves on the east side of the center section.

WELCOME TO A NEW SCHOOL YEAR!

We're gearing up for a great new year with some library renovations! Over the summer, Mr. Reagan and some very helpful students knocked down a couple walls for us, opening up more floor space for you to work and move. We think you're going to like it. Come on in and take a look.

You'll find all of our fiction books in the front part of the library and all of the nonfiction titles are now in the stacks behind the circulation counter.

We're also pleased that we are getting a new computer lab in the library! We hope it will be up and ready for your use when school starts. The new lab will be located at the west end, just oposite the existing lab and near the librarians' desks.

There's so much more to say about the great new Gateway nominees and other wonderful books we read over the summer! Be sure to look at our Read All About It! blog for some suggestions of books you might enjoy and also log in to share your own recommendations with us.

Whole Lotta Readin' Going On

I don't know about you, but I'm planning to read this summer. A lot. I've got a stack of the 2011-2012 Gateway Nominees waiting on me (I've made a small dent in them) as well as some just for fun mysteries, a couple new titles by favorite authors, and a few other recommended young adult titles. I'm up to my chin in books and I'm loving it!

This school year I read in bursts. I'd get on a real book kick and gorge myself on stories. Then, I'd hit a busy season and forget when was the last time I picked up something to read. I imagine it was the same for you? Still, if you're hoping to read over the summer (and I'm hoping you are), here are some books I read this year that you might want to try (in no special order):

Although I haven't yet finished it, currently I'm reading Scrawl by Mark Shulman and am really enjoying it.

Thanks for the Memories

In a few days, the Glendale seniors will be graduating and moving on to a new phase of their lives. We will miss you and wanted you to know how much we have enjoyed having you use the library during your years at Glendale. We especially want to thank all of our senior library workers. You made it possible for our library to run smoothly and the badges to get made! Thanks--Josh, Tommy, Alec, Brandon, Joelee, Kelsie, Jimmy, Colin, Nimrat, Tom, Trey, Skyler, Bethany, Courtney, Halle, Grant, Allie, Charles, Keith, Cantelle, Erica, and DeAnthony. We will miss all of you!

Good Times!

The Gateway Voting Party was a success. Nearly 300 students came to the cafeteria during 4th block on Wednesday, votes in hand, and put away 70 large pizzas and nine giant chocolate cakes purchased with funds provided by Glendale's PTSA and our business partners at Chase Bank. Thanks to Mr. Gardner and Mr. Spark for collecting ballots at the door, Ms. Bockelman, Ms. Helfrecht and Ms. Baxley for serving up the cake, our two Chase volunteers for keeping the pizza coming, and to Ms. Eggelston for sorting ballots to make the counting so much easier! Thanks, too, to Mudducks Pizza and Pasta Express for giving us good deals on the really yummy food.

More thanks to you, Glendale's Gateway readers, for participating in the program and to our wonderful Communication Arts teachers for promoting it in their classes.

And the winner (at Glendale) was: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

It's Gateway Party Time!

The Gateway Party is coming! Everyone who has read three of the Gateway titles will receive an invitation to the voting party to be held on March 9th at 2:15 in the Glendale cafeteria. The invitations will go out Monday, March 7th. Your invitation will be your pass from class and your ballot...so don't lose it. A list of students eligible to attend the party has been posted outside the library door. Be sure to check for your name. If you think you are eligible to attend the party, and your name isn't on the list, check with Mrs. Harris or Mrs. Foltz before March 9th. Almost 300 students are going to get an invite to join us for pizza and cake. We're excited to see you there!
